John Mayer
August 15, 2004 - Meadows Music Theater
Hartford, CT
Maroon 5, DJ Logic

John Mayer’s Offical Fan Club, Local 83 has been allowing fans who purchased presale tickets to attend a sound check party. Approximately 3 hours before the show was set to start, John and his band assembled on the stage to get ready for sound check. The atmosphere is very different than the atmosphere at the actual concert. Although John realized fans were there watching him, his interaction with them was minimal. First things first, everything on stage needed to be set up. Micrphones kept fading in and out between verses, and at other points John mentioned that the sound tech had the guitar playing too loudly in his ear monitor. John played a variety of songs, such as “Come Back To Bed”, “Bigger than my Body” and “Clarity” he also worked out a duet with his band members, and even did a bit of beat boxing. Almost as fast as it had started John thanked the fans for joining him and left the stage. Fans were then ushered back outside to wait for the main event, John Mayer and Maroon 5.
DJ Logic was the opening act for the show August 15th at the Meadows Music Theater in Hartford. He mixed for 30 minutes while the crowd filtered into their seats.
Maroon 5 was up next. Nothing compares to seeing this band live. You can listen to their cd a thousand times over but have never really heard the songs until you see them performed live. Adam Levine has such an energy performing onstage, it’s electrifying. This energy rubbed off on the audience when the band began to sing “This Love” I don’t think there was a person in the house not singing along at the top of their lungs. The set was very high energy, Adam was all over the place. They played most of the songs off Songs About Jane including “Harder to Breathe”, “Not Coming Home”, “Sunday Morning”, “Through with You”, “Tangled”, “She Will Be Loved”, “Shiver”, and “The Sun”. They also played one of their newer songs, “Wasted Years.” Adam commented that the last time they were in Harford, they were at the Webster Theater and it was one of the first times they felt loved by a group of people.
At 9pm, John Mayer took the stage.

John was great as usual, what more can I really say? I kind of was digging m5 more though. Maybe because I knew all the words to their songs except one. I really need to work on learning the words to heavier things. Although I don't think I was alone, the place seemed to erupt when John sang Room For Squares songs.
